Often, the world of coliving is tainted by a misperception of the concept, which is commonly confused with “flat-sharing,” even though they are two very different things.
At Wetoget, we want to explain the differences between these two concepts, which are based on living together with other people but from very different perspectives.
1️⃣ Community and networking: Coliving focuses on creating an intentional community where residents share values, interests, and experiences. It provides an environment designed to foster networking and collaboration.
On the other hand, flat-sharing primarily focuses on sharing expenses and space, without necessarily emphasizing community and networking opportunities.
2️⃣ Amenities and services: Coliving spaces often offer a wide range of amenities, such as modern common areas, cleaning services, and social activities. These additional services are designed to create a more convenient and enriching living experience.
In flat-sharing, amenities and additional services are less common and depend more on individual agreements among roommates.
3️⃣ Flexibility and management: Coliving offers centralized management, where residents can rent individual rooms or units with flexible contracts and all-inclusive services. This provides greater ease in terms of administration and avoids conflicts related to space management.
In flat-sharing, the responsibility for management and rental arrangements lies with the roommates themselves.
Both options have their own advantages and cater to different needs and preferences. Coliving is ideal for those seeking a community and collaboration experience, while flat-sharing may be more suitable for those looking for a flexible, cost-saving living solution.
